The siege tower was a type of siege weapon that allowed soldiers to enter the castle without breaching the walls. This type of siege weapon, however, is very large and expensive to construct so it is usually one of the last to be built in a prolonged siege. A siege tower usually has 3 floors and is a rectangular construction with 4 wheels and a height equal to or greater than the besieged wall. It carried scores of soldiers, who used ladders to move between the levels. The siege tower is constructed to protect the soldiers inside while being able to let the soldiers to get onto the wall. The outer framework of the siege tower would be draped with animal hides. The top of the siege tower also has a small drawbridge which would allow attackers to rush onto the battlements. When everything was ready, attackers pushed, rolled, or wheeled the siege towers into place.
